Der botanische Name f\u00fcr Ingwer lautet Zingiber Officinale. Urspr\u00fcnglich beheimatet war die mehrj\u00e4hrige Pflanze in S\u00fcdostasien, heute sind die Hauptanbaugebiete in Australien, Asien und S\u00fcdamerika zu finden, wo der Ingwer als Nutzpflanze angebaut wird. Ingwer braucht zum Wachsen und Gedeihen ein tropisches Klima.<\/p>\n

Der als Gew\u00fcrz und Nahrungsmittel verwendete Teil der Pflanze ist die Ingwerknolle. Hierbei handelt es sich nicht um die Wurzel, sondern um ein Rhizom, welches horizontal unter der Erdoberfl\u00e4che w\u00e4chst. Von diesem gehen nach unten die Wurzeln ab und nach oben St\u00e4ngel, die bis zu 1 m hoch werden k\u00f6nnen. Das Rhizom dient der Ingwerpflanze als N\u00e4hrstoffspeicher und zur vegetativen Vermehrung: Es kann geteilt werden und aus jedem Teilst\u00fcck entsteht eine neue Pflanze.<\/p>\n

Bereits im Altertum war Ingwer ein gesch\u00e4tztes Gew\u00fcrz in China und Indien, von dort kam er \u00fcber den Mittelmeerraum auch nach Europa.
